Even if his music weren’t as stunningly amazing as it is, I may well have still spotlighted Hanni El Khatib….simply because I love saying “Hanni El Khatib” . But luckily, you don’t have to spend the next 5 minutes hearing me extol the virtues of his name…because the music he makes is some of my favorite being made right now.
It’s vintage blue rock swagger. Khatib is originally from San Francisco and currently living in LA. Ground zero for the vintage vinyl garage DIY revolution.
His first career was as a creative director for the Skate Fashion label HUF. And that skate punk mentality is on full display in his music. It’s retro blues and folk with a punk yawlp that ends up landing in Jon Spencer Blues Explosion territory.
Khatib himself describes his music as being “for anyone who has ever been shot or hit by a train.”
“Mondo and His Makeup” from his new “Savage Times Vol. 3” EP was featured on Audio Bonsai’s Listening Post 16.29. Be sure to check out all the other tracks that are featured there that we just didn’t have time to make podcasts for.
